Service evaluation is the core of our business. We provide a range of solutions from an independent regulatory compliance review through to assisting organisations to develop their own self evaluation systems.

We assist organisations to embed self evaluation and quality improvement.

Much of our evaluation work is underpinned by the Appreciative Inquiry model in the belief that the most positive and sustainable change is rooted in identifying what has worked and building on this.

Self evaluation - at the heart of regulation is the concept of self evaluation; this is now a requirement and an integral part of most inspection processes. However, the concept of an organisation having a structured way of reviewing itself is accepted as best business practice. We provide guidance and training for organisations to enhance their self evaluation processes. The training we provide to staff is engaging and motivating, ensuring that everyone is part of the process. We also ensure that systems fully engage key stakeholders, not least the customer.

Inspection frameworks - We provide advice and training to organisations about inspection frameworks, and the implications for the organisation. We also carry out focused evaluations of the service in order to identify potentially problematic areas. Here are a sample of the ways in which we can help your managers and staff to be able to respond more effectively to inspection and obtain improved grades:

  • Guidance with the development of your SAR (Self Assessment Report).
  • Applying an Appreciative Inquiry approach in order to 'exploit' and develop existing strengths
  • Mock interviews with managers and staff in order to help individuals be better prepared for inspection and to feed into the SAR process
  • Advice on how to 'manage' the inspection process
  • Advice on how to write evaluative reports and other effective ways of wording the SAR.
  • File reads in order to check key documents and make them more ready for inspection and scrutiny.
  • Advice on internal systems of identifying, monitoring, analysing, reporting on, and responding to, key performance indicators (KPIs)

Thematic reviews. We can review specific aspects of a service and provide an in-depth report based on the needs of the organisation. This can include the establishment of new services, and the requirements of registration.

As part of this service we specialise in a Regulatory Compliance Review, this identifies how well the organisation is able to respond to regulation and inspection. Most importantly we provide advice and propose solutions in order that the organisation can develop robust internal evaluation systems and processes.

We also have direct experience of partnership arrangements such as Young People's Partnerships (YPPs). We offer advice and training in order that partner organisations can develop and address complex issues that arise within large partnership arrangements.

Regulation visits. Legislation such as the Care Standards Act require that organisations monitor and review the quality of care within their service. We can provide a completely independent evaluation and reporting service in order that this requirement is implemented. We can also provide advice to an organisation on how to implement their own systems of evaluation and review.

To increase a provider’s capacity to improve, we propose to take greater account in the inspection process of the evidence and outcomes of the provider’s own self evaluation procedures.

We want to encourage providers to use self-evaluation as an ongoing process rather than using it for the production of a one-off self-evaluation report just before an inspection is due.

The first stage of any improvement journey is to understand the performance of your service. Much of the past five years has focussed on this.

The next stage of the improvement will bring its own challenges. With the support of a Performance Management Development Fund Grant local authorities have invested in performance measurement and new performance management systems.
